A Visually Rhetoric Kind of Year...

Hello blogging buddies! It has been a while since I've updated my blog but I'm happy to be back and let you all in on the trials and tribulations of being a 3rd year UWO student and of course... style ranger. In case you forgot, my name is Joseph and I'm currently studying media communications. Halfway through my degree I feel more confident than ever that my future is in fashion. After graduation I plan to pursue a post graduate degree at the esteemed Parsons School of Design in New York City. In order to prepare myself for the grueling fashion industry I have enrolled in a writing class called "Visual Rhetoric and Analysis". For the class I will be writing 6 image analyzes within this blog which will give you, my loyal readers, a deeper understanding of contemporary media texts (photos, films, etc...). So then this since you have 6 exiting posts to look forward from me, I think it would be appropriate to know who I am as person!

Souce

This is an image of the most recent Tommy Hilfiger TH Denim Campaign. How does this describe me you ask!? Simple. The photo represents fun, friendship, and spontaneity. All characteristics of my personality. I love life and try to live as much as a carefree lifestyle as possible, while still keeping track of paper deadline and class attendance of course! Now I can dissect this image in full detail, but I'll save it for future blog entries!

Joseph and the Technicolor Jeans

Oh my! Sorry it has been like a month since my last post! In between being hospitalized (my lung collapsed...NBD) and being in New York, I have had NO time to blog! :( But I'm super happy that so many of you have been messaging me to update more so YAY first blog post of 2010!!

So I really think I am going to pull back my grade 12 obsession with colored jeans. Last year I noticed that I circulated between the same 3 pair of jeans every time I went out...I have like over 20 pair of jeans..haha

Anyways...what color do you like the best?! I am SO tempted to go to class tomorrow in my bleach white pants, hahah yes?

Thigh High

It seems as if the latest trend coming about is the thigh high boot or tight. I personally love it. Kind of reminiscent of the Fall/Winter 2009 Louis Vuitton show where thigh high boots dominated on the runway. I’ve seen a couple girls on campus wearing thigh high boots and the trend of a thigh high sock is becoming more predominant in the London, Ontario bar scene.

What do you guys think? Are thigh high leg accessories too much? Would you wear these tights and boots? Let me know!

Pa-pa Paparazzi

For some reason I consider myself somewhat of a celebrity when I got to New York City. When I went on a school trip a couple years ago, my friend Emily and I thought it would be fun for our friends to follow us around with cameras taking stalker-like photos. It kind of worked in a sense. When all of friends were taking candid shots of us walking, people on the street started to stop and stare at what the big fuss was about.

New York City is one of my favorite cities in the world. Anything is possible. I will tell you guys about my Fashion Week experiences another time, but all I can say is I <3>

Winter Wonderland

It is kind of funny how on the night of December 1st, Canada experienced the first major snow fall. Personally, I love winter. Apart from the fall foliage, winter is one of my favorite times of the year. As annoying as the heavy traffic and Arctic winds are, winter is just a time to wrap yourself up in big comfy sweaters and layer like no other. Two winters ago I did a photo shoot for my friend’s portfolio and shot in the middle of Mount Pleasant cemetery in Toronto. As juvenile as I look, I loved the outfits we pulled and it fully embraces a sophisticated winter scene.

Touched by an Angel

It's that time of year again. The Victoria Secret Fashion show outlines the new holiday trends of under attire. Over the past couple years, the shows get more and more extravagant and I feel as with the whole recession scare, this show was lacking.

The over styled outfits and accessories took away from the relevantly cute undergarments. Furthermore, the innovative but unsuccessful angel wings, took away from the original wings the models sported over the past couple seasons. I feel as it this show has just become WAY to commercialized and that it has lost the angelic essence that it used to embrace. Moreover, these models are looking a little too skinny and even make me feel bad my body.

Sidenote: Behati (girl on the left) looks great! I saw her in New York this summer and she truly is a vision....
